Galleria Mall in Queens, NY, has been shut down as of 10:00 a.m. because of “safety concerns,” according to a statement from the mall.
The mall is closed to the public.
According to a press release, mall officials are currently investigating what led to the closure of the Galleria.
“We are in the process of investigating what caused this situation, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” the statement reads.
On the Galleries Facebook page, fans are mourning the closure.
There is no word on what the closure is for the rest of the day, but it’s likely the closure will affect the surrounding mall, which has a different mall name.
The mall closed at 9:00am on Wednesday, and it’s unclear how long the mall will be closed.
Galleria Mall was built in the 1970s and opened in 1984.
It was the first mall in the city to have indoor shopping and was the third tallest mall in New York City.
