A Texas city council member has proposed an ordinance to ban the possession of all guns in public spaces except for self-defense.
The proposal, sponsored by council member Bill Denton, was submitted to the city council Tuesday night.
It would bar all people from possessing firearms in public places, including schools, bars, parks and other public places.
The law would also prohibit the sale or transfer of firearms to anyone who does not have a permit.
Denton’s proposal is not the first to try to address the growing number of guns in the U.S. Denton is not a Republican but has endorsed Hillary Clinton.
In addition to Denton’s proposed ban, the city has a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
The ordinance was approved by a vote of 1-0.
